44 Carbine Magazine Release Button

Hi everyone. First post for me here.
I originally posted on Ruger Forum.net where it was suggested that I post on this fine forum to see if anyone has some more insight on topc.
I was recently gifted a 44 Carbine. I couldn't find a picture on-line of one similar to mine because of a button located on the side of the stock.
The folks on Ruger Forum.net (I believe) correctly identified the button a the "new magazine release button" that was introduced at some point in time.
When I called Ruger directly they told me that it was a model 01011 from 1979. The serial number seems to supports that at 102-63XXX.
Does anyone know when the "new magazine release button" was introduced and how long it was kept in production? While it isn't clear and quite possibly wishful thinking, it seems that there may not be very many out there. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your consideration.
