Anyone know how many No.1 Rugers were chambered in .308 cal.?

I just picked up a 1st year 1AB in 308 with low serial number. I’ve asked the same question and have been given answers all over the spectrum. I’ve been told that it’s a common release and then told an uncommon.

Any non-prefix Number 1 rifle is not common as there were less than 8,500 produced.
But as far as non-prefix guns go, the .308 is one of the two most common calibers along with the .222.
In my Reference of Ruger Firearms I estimated roughly 850 guns in .308. These are composed of at least 8 different known configurations however based on forearm type, barrel length and weight and sights, no sights or target blocks.
Most common are the 1AH, 1AB and 1B

I emailed with Lee Newton about the article he wrote. He says less than 7500 before the Gun Control Act of 1968. I agree with you not common.

Yeah, I use the quantity 8,500 because serial numbering on those receivers went to 8437.
How many of those receivers were actually turned into rifles and shipped would be the other question.
