Thank you so much John!!!! I was losing sleep over wondering how it all transpired back in 1949 …. (not really, but was puzzled)! You cleared it up and I really appreciate you digging into it! You are a gentleman and a scholar!!!
Thanks again Kenny

A Monkey Wrench in the Paper work John
I got my letter from Ruger today for The Ruger Standard Auto / Salt Cod box and it throws a Monkey wrench into the research! Serial #2127 per Dougans book and his research tells a different story than Ruger Archives. The letter states that 2127 was produced in November 1949 and shipped to the name o...

Re: Standard auto with Salt Cod box Dougan question
Thank you John!
…, So the original owner must have recieved serial number 144 in October of 49 (envelope most likely pertains to 144) it broke and he sent it back and it was replaced with number 2127 in January.
Interesting…… wonder what became of 0144??

Re: Standard auto with Salt Cod box Dougan question
Thanks John, appreciate the input. So, do you believe, 2127 which is my gun pictured, is the replacement gun for 144 as you stated in your book? If that’s the case then my 2127 would have shipped in January…. correct? The original envelope has October and Nov. dates on it …… wondering if the envelop...

Standard auto with Salt Cod box Dougan question
IMG_7259.jpeg I recently picked up a Standard Auto that has a Salt Cod Box. The provenance that accompanies it from original owner leads one to believe it was shipped in late October or Nov. of 1949 as well as Ruger ship dates listed on the Ruger site. As I researched the early standard Autos in Mr...

I claimed it! Now the wait for funds to clear and shipping!
Can’t wait to get the whole package! The provenance that accompanies the gun is amazing!
