If it will fully seat a .38 Spl round, it makes me think that the wrong barrel or the wrong cylinder was installed. You could, if you have the right equipment, measure the barrel diameter. Or, if you reload and have both 9mm (.355) and .38 (.357 or .358) bullets (just the bullet) see which one fits....

David, You could start with the Blue Book of Gun Values. That would give you a start but really will not show what the true collector value might be (I suspect it is probably quite a bit higher).
