Hi, folks, this is my first post here. (Can't believe I hadn't found out about the site or RCA years ago)

I picked up an older (shipped May '68) Blackhawk 357 a couple days ago. It was in its original box with papers, looks unfired, and has a plastic bag containing a shortie cleaning rod with brush and swab plus a small blade screwdriver. Question is: were these little cleaning kits included in the box back then??

Thanks,
Dennis in Ft Worth

Hi Dennis,

Welcome to the RCA site! Sounds like you found a nice Blackhawk. Ruger did not include a cleaning kit with their guns. Sounds like you may have a S&W, other gun manufactuer or an after market kit.

Hope that you join the Ruger Collectors Association and help support and enjoy our hobbie.....these are great guns!! Hit the Join the RCA button and you can print a membership application on-line.

Thanks, Bill--
I bought a NIB Blackhawk and SBH back in the early-early '70s (still have the SBH) and don't recall getting such a thing with them.

(Already downloaded the application....)

Thanks again
Dennis

Dennis. I will second the opinion of Mr. .44 Flat Top. I have never seen a cleaning kit offered by Ruger in their catalogs, owners' manuals, advertisements or accessories listing. I agree with Bill, S & W had some of the items you describe and I do not believe they are marked with the company logo? Their tiny screw drivers make handy rear sight screw screw turners. Further, I do not think that Ruger could have offered one length cleaning rod to accomodate all their barrel lengths.
