M77 express

Post by exbo3388 » Thu Nov 09, 2017 7:33 am

I just purchased a M77 express in .338 Win.
The S/N is 760-000xx. Looking at the Ruger book, I would think that would make it a early production rifle... Here is the confusing part, the original box is 50yr anniversary marked and all the numbers seem correct, including the store price tag of 1899.00.

A letter from Ruger "MAY" explain some things, may not. I have Maximums, which were only produced from 1982-1984, that were shipped in 2005 in a box with a bar code label on it. (Ruger did not start using bar codes until the mid 90's) Not unusual for guns to hang out in inventory and ship at a later date and use whatever box was available. I have also seen a Maximum that shipped in a plastic box with all the correct Max information on the label. I offered a few different possibilities, but your guess may be as good as mine! Jack.
