Mis-alinged barrel or rib

Post by Col. F. Bina » Mon May 06, 2013 1:12 pm

I recently purchased on older NIB Number 1 in 45-70 (medium sporter barrel). The gun is in flawless condition except for one thing. The barrel is about 1/15th of a turn off dead center (front and rear sights line up ever so slightly to the left). This can be seen visually, but also where the rib meets the breach, it is slightly off center (to the left).

I have not yet shot it, so I can not speak to the issue of how this may affect accuracy - however, since both sights line up with each other, I would assume it would print out okay, but I not sure.

Has anyone ever experienced anything similar? Is there a simple solution short of sending it back to Ruger?

Thanks for any insight you might provide.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Im not too worried about BATFE since im thinking about a 16-18" barrel just wanted to make sure i was making the initial measurements right so i had an idea of how much shorter the rifle would be.
