This Ruger Standard Auto was produced in 1950 making it absolutely a Red Eagle made before Ruger changed the medallions from red to black. Collectors want a Red Eagle in better condition. I've seen several of these (Ruger .22 pistols) without a serial at all. Most were guns taken from the Factory by employees. Can't say on yours. It would not be in the Factory records.
You will probably never find the whole story. Good luck.

The tale of the shipping carton. Side of book wrap reads: RSSM--X (I'm assuming X for 2 cylinders) SINGLE--SIX .22 WMR--WALNUT (for walnut grip panels) Letter comes back "RSSM, no extra cylinder. Every employee received a copy of this letter on the afternoon of July, 19 1991. After 42 years of firearms manufacture, by SR&Co., in Southport no guns produced at that plant after 7-19-91.
